How to Build Your Own Solar Panels – Review of Guides
Since there are more than a dozen of guides online that teaches you how to build your own solar panels, it is worthwhile to review them and present the findings here. Based on user feedback and our own experience, we are able to zero-in on 3 guides which we felt deserve positive ratings.
While most guides talk about how to build both a solar power and wind power system, the designs are different and naturally the blueprints and materials do differ. We find some guides very hard to understand and the instructions are not clear. Some do not even have proper diagrams and illustrations. However, there are a few which are professionally done and here they are ranked according.
1. Earth Energy For Home

Earth Energy For Home is created by David Hall, a DIY energy enthusiast. According to this system, you can create a solar power system for less than $200. You will learn how to create a portable system, off-grid and on-grid solar power systems and pick up a secret tip to purchase cheap solar chips at almost giveaway prices.
What we like about this system is its slick solar panel design. The 75-page guide lays out every single step with content as well as illustrations and diagrams so that nothing is missed out. It was easy even for someone who is not familiar with technical stuff.
More importantly, users who applied the system were able to come up with their own solar panels and cut their electric bills within a month. Some reported savings of up to 80%. They were also able to complete one panel within 6 hours.
2. Earth4Energy

Earth4Energy is similar to Earth Energy For Home and is an illustrated guide that also shows you how to create solar panels as well as wind turbines. Feedback from users has been positive.
The guide contains 85 pages of blueprints and illustrations. We find the information useful and easy to digest. The reason why we gave it the second place is because compared to Earth Energy For Home, it is not as illustrative and the explanations are not as detailed for several chapters.
No.3 Homemade Power Plant

While you will find a lot of content in this guide, it gets a little too wordy for us. In fact, this is one main complaint of users – too much text and little diagrams. Most users appreciate it when a guide, especially a do-it-yourself guide contains more diagrams as pictures tend to explain things better than words alone.
However, since the information provided does show you where to buy your components and how to assemble them properly, we feel that it still deserves No.3. At least, it is hands-down better than other guides we have come across.
